Spent this weekend in a working vacation, learning Flash. In a break from the tutorials, I colored a sketch in Flash and found the program to have some pretty good inking tools. This digital ink and coloring took about 4 hours. This is NOT suitable for animation, but give me an idea of hwo to Draw in it. Animation and simple characters come later, but I feel comfortable with the tools, now.

Ah, the always-lovely Asheru. She'd better be one good fighter if she goes into a battle wearing less armor than the infamous chainmail bikini.
Scott Ruggels
She is young, and still learning, but she is good as long as she doesnt' think about it. Her culture tends to value speed and movement over protection. Other lupines less so, but in war she woult wear what armour her elders think she is worth. They have no manufacturing base so any armour they ge is either trophy or purchased. She has neither experience or funds yet, and the sword was her grandfather's.

Thanks for the explanation.
BTW, like the bit about inheriting the blade. If I remember right some of the better-made swords got passed down for quite some time... Once found an account about a sword with a Renaissance-era hilt and a blade that bore the swordmaker's mark in Norse runes!

Presumably the puttees are for keeping insects and grime out of one's fur, as well as ankle and wrist support?
Is there a story to Asheru's world, or an ongoing series? I like the character, and keep finding myself wanting to learn more. I am such a worldbuilding fanboy.
Scott Ruggels
Precisely. Well once upon a time I published my Story notes in a Dead Tree anzine called Huzzah!, but I don't have the notes any more die to an HD crash, and my printed copies are in storage. The short story is that a group of Humans from a Byzantium Like Empire need a native guide to find clues to a religious and royal succession issue, but they fond somethign else entirely. No magic in this world, but there are some oddities.

Such a lovely warrior princess *wags tail*
Scott Ruggels
Princess? Hardly. She's another young Barbarian looking for a job. Lupine princesses look different and kind of strange.

Ah, OK! Either way, I really like the character an' I hope you'll draw more of her!

I've always been super fond of Asheru ever since I first saw her many years ago on Yerf. :P

Good to see Asheru back again, any work of her is always a joy to see. Is there a possibility of the story and characters getting back into action? Understandably you are busy with work and whatnot.
Scott Ruggels
No clue, but not likely in the shrot term but we will see. part of the problem is large parts of the middle of the story are "unset". Time will tell.
